This photograph was taken on 42nd Street in New York City, right outside Grand Central Terminal. Sabrett hotdogs are almost as connotative of the city as yellow cabs. Apparently every vendor and taxi driver in New York feels the need to be on their cell phone at least 90% of the time.
Why I use a Leica:
For this shot, I used my M7 with the 50mm Summicron and the film is trusty Tri-X, pushed to 1600 and developed in Ilford DDX. I do a lot of street photography wherever I am, which is mostly in Los Angeles, but also in New York and Paris when I get to them. I carry my Leica with me all the time. For street shooting, the M7 is a fine choice – the auto-exposure comes in very handy – you can pre-set your aperture and pre-focus at about 10 to 15 feet and grab shots as soon as they present themselves.

You’re right, this IS a familiar scene. I don’t know how many thousand times I’ve walked by his cart, yet I’ve never had one of his hotdogs :p
