This photo was made in Gijón, my hometown. It was a stormy winter Sunday, 2009. I don’t think when I’m doing street photography, it’s something instinctive for me. Later, in the darkroom, I try to analyze the unconscious feelings that made me choose that instant. That’s what makes film the best choice for me. This photo talks about my obsession for traveling, the mist covers the horizon I want to leave behind. The old fashion man walks with the dignity of the one who achieved his goals and the couple in front of the cross looks melancholic, waiting for the mist to disappear.
Why I use a Leica:
I use a leica because I need a solid camera body, small and reliable when I’m traveling. I only need an aperture ring and a speed dial, the rest is pure instinct. I love summicron bokeh and its sharpness. It’s the best camera for street photography.
Nicolás lives in Gijón, Spain and he shot this picture using a Leica M6, summicron 50mm, ilford hp5+ @ 1600 iso. Please visit Nico’s Flickr photostream.

Wow, this image has so many great qualities. The mist, the man leaving, the cross, the couple. I’ve been exploring it for minutes and it just gets better and better. Incredible work, Nicolas.
Beautiful capture! The walking man with the hat is the key element that makes the picture stand out. Well done and thanks for sharing!
I would have never guess that this was shot in 2009. Exquisite work, my friend.
Wonderful mood to this one. And there is an interesting mix of softness yet with contrast.
Perhaps the foreground intrudes a little too much into the heart of the image but it is a small masterpiece nevertheless.
