I shot this one in Adelaide (Feb 2009) at Three D Radio. Some friends of mine went there to perform live, and in the end everybody joined in. The atmosphere was so great, and the moment I took this shot, I knew (hoped) I had captured that; that’s always the case with your good ones anyway. I hope you agree. For me this picture shows the beauty of passionate people doing what they love.
Why I use a Leica:
I shot this with my M8 and Elmarit 28mm. Besides that I use an M2 and a III from ‘34. So I love film, but the M8 is 2nd best when it comes to digital. Of course no experience yet with the M9… I like the Leicas because they’re rangefinders, and so they don’t block your connection with your subject as a bulky SLR does. Besides that, they are inobtrusive; many times people are slightly disappointed when I arrive with my Leica, because they expect me to have a professional camera… (Ha!) But: this allows me to move around much more freely, because I don’t look like a predator, and I get the shots that I want.
Dirk Vroemen lives in the Netherlands, but shoots his Leicas all over the world. Please visit his Flickr photostream and his personal web site.

Great atmosphere and beautiful tones. I like it!
Great capture, I gotta say. Looks like a fun night :)
What strikes me in this picture is how you captured, on the foreground, the emotion/passion. This in dark tones. But suddenly I see a second layer in the back, behind the men, with lots of light, where a mother and child are positioned. Mother sings happily and child looks intense to the singer. And then this man with the white hat and shirt that dominates within the dark tones(depending on where I focus on when looking at this pciture). Tones, shadow, light fall and movement gave me associations with Rembrandt.
Thanks, Jarle, Frank and Eugène, for your kind comments!
