I was in New York for a few days, and I always love having a camera with a fast fifty when I’m there, because I shoot my best photos in New York. I think it has to do with the fact that I don’t live there anymore, so I see the place as an outsider sees it. This was on 23rd St in New York, west of 7th Avenue, when I was on my way to meet a friend at a coffeeshop, eating a bucket of takeout rib tips, and I saw this photograph waiting to be taken so I took it.
Why I use a Leica:
I only started shooting with a Leica this summer, because of the blog series “Leica as Teacher” over at Mike Johnston’s The Online Photographer. Because I thought I was getting lazy, shooting digital and letting the camera do the work. So I bought an M3 and a Zeiss 50mm f2 Planar. I am absolutely in love with this camera. It feels so transparent in my hands, I feel as if I am taking a photograph with just my eyes.
