I try to take pictures of people that tell a story but the result is never close to satisfactory. However, this picture of a literaturist taken in Ottawa, Ontario is one of my favorite shots of all time. Not only because I felt I got it right for once, but also because it was a meaningful learning experience. I was taking pictures of this antiquous condominium and the appearance of this literaturist was a good surprise to both of us. He was out for a smoke and some whisky to take a break from his writing. Knowing that I was attracted to the building, he kindly told me some stories about it and himself. After a nice chat with him I decided to take a picture of him because I felt his words helped to deepen my perception and feelings towards the antiquous atmosphere around the building. The picture was taken with a M6 and Summicron 35mm.
Why I use a Leica:
I use a Leica because it’s simple! I really like the organic way that a Leica allows a photographer to take pictures. The less settings I have to worry about on the camera, the more I could focus on the image I try to present. Also, Leica’s compactness really makes it a great walk-around camera!

What’s a “literaturist”? I’ve never heard that word before. Is that a writer/author?
Personally I don’t think the word really exist because I couldn’t find it in the dictionary, but there are plenty of references on google so I suppose it’s a commonly accepted word to describe a person who is knowledgeable in the studying of literature. By the way, I like your pictures a lot, especially the composition!
