Last year my best and oldest friend, Mathias, could afford to buy a used Porsche he always wanted. So to do him a favor I decided to shoot his Porsche up here in Hamburg. Normally I work as an political and social photojournalist, so car shootings are not my thing. But after some tries I could manage to capture that kind of atmosphere I like most – the more dark and creepy, so that the car itself comes out best. And Mathias is happy about the photos.
I have shot the photo from a tripod, with the Leica Elmar-M 24mm f/3.8 ASPH. I used f/4.0, ISO 320 and a 4 second exposure. It was shot completely with available light; the DNG was developed with the superb CaptureOne Pro and post-processed via Adobe Photoshop CS3.
Why I use a Leica:
I use a Leica M8 because it has the advantage of the classic M-reportage camera, combined with a digital chip. It is crisp, sharp, especially with the new Leica Elmar-M 24mm, witch is around 32mm “normal”. I can carry my Leica M all day long with me and shoot in a discrete manner. So it has proved to be the ideal camera for me – for classic
photoreportage in critical environment up to an traditional portrait or people shooting.

I like that shot of this Porsche 944. :)
Certainly original enough and good enough to be in a glossy car magazine. Is the 944 really that immaculate or has it seen a facelift in CS3? ;-)
All over the car is in a very good condition, espacially for the 226.000 km it has run. But I must admit that it has been newly painted by the former owner. And with a good polishing wax you get that gloss :-)
But don’t ask how many hours of polishing I’ve done on this ;-)
Many thanks to Ben for the nice shots!
Thanks to all for your nice comments about my shot
