QuoteI am pretty useless taking pictures of people – and only marginally better at taking pictures of objects. I had with me, this particular morning, a friend’s Leica D-Lux 4, which I had borrowed in order to compare the pictures against my Canon G10. Having shot a few pictures earlier that morning (and getting increasingly impressed with the little baby Leica), I had put the camera in my pocket with an intention of taking more pictures during the day at various locations and light conditions.. as I was waiting outside our apartment waiting for the elevator, the rest of the family walked out – and it took me less than a few seconds to quickly see this frame opportunity with the nice backlighting, to quickly take the camera out and shoot off a frame.

Why I use a Leica:
Having heard so much about Leicas, and having never used one before – I am now a die hard convert (if the tiny D-Lux 4 can produce such fantastic quality – I am really looking forward to one day using the bigger ones!). I have been a die hard Canon user for the last several years and have owned several bodies and lenses over the time. My experience, however, with the Leica has left me overwhelmed with the noiseless sharp pictures and the amazing quality of the lens. The camera has since gone back to its owner – and I am left wanting for more!

Nice shot Mihir! The composition is quite nice and the backlight that produces the elongated shadows is quite enteresting.. looking forward to more!

  2. Mish says:

The black colour of the Leica is intense and deep giving it a overwhelming presence in the picture . The composition makes it even better .Overall a feeling of Deja-Vu

interesting play of shadows and light . . . enhances the ‘moment of waiting’ . . of anticipation . . . you’ve taken what was probably an ordinary, everyday moment to one of drama by ’seeing’ the light and its enhancing effect.
    The Leica, obviously, is a Master-ful camera . . .

Great shot. I like the b&w and composition.

  7. Sanjay Malhotra says:

B&W composition is very challenging and the way the image has been captured is awesome and unique. No faces, potraits…but still shows human angle.

  8. Anindya says:

    Great Shot Mihir,

fascinating angle and fuzziness of the shadows. the angle gives the picture a mysterious element, which is highlighted by the backlight and the alignment of the stripes on the floor

    Keep em coming…. cheers

Hey Mihir, love the sense of anticipation that pervades the picture. Very intense. Monochrome always adds that timelessness. Good timing!

    Dear Sir,

Nice picturization, good professionalism in the photography, there is poem which says “Asatoma Sadgamaya, Tamasoma Jyotirgamaya” in the same way the black and white photo shows that the shadows are following the light.

Thank you once again for giving me the opportunity to see this picture.

    Yours sincerely,

    P Krishnan Kutty
