In winter there is not much to photograph in the middle of Germany (Kellwerwald). Not because there are no subjects, but because the light is not so good. Either it is cloudy or the sun has not enough power to get rid of the fog. In this time of the year I opt for B&W. B&W takes one dimension of reality away, the color. Which make the images more surreal.
I see those horses almost every day. The right horse is the more shy one. The left is the total opposite. As I approached them, the left horse came right toward me to beg for a treat (Sometimes I have some old bread with me. And they remember.). While they were staring at me I lift the camera to my eye and released the shutter. I had only one shot. Attached to the M8 was a Zeiss Biogon 25mm f/2.8. The M8 was preset so that I just had to photograph the scene. This is one thing I like on Leicas. There is not much getting in your way. You pre set the shutter and aperture. Then you hyper focus and you are good to go. The other things I like are the quality of the lenses, be it Zeiss or Leica, and the size of the equipment.
Ruediger Merz is originally from Germany, but lives in Bay City, Texas. Please visit his web site avianart.com – you’ll find many more Leica shots in the «Impressions of Germany» gallery.

Low light, cloudy, foggy??
Sounds like perfect photographing circumstances to me.
Send some of that this way.
