In February of 2009, around the Ground Zero area in New York City, I was walking near the construction areas and looking at the workers having lunch in the street. It was snowing a lot and I saw that man on his own with that blank wall behind him. The man was actually cleaning his gloves on the snow.
I thought a slow speed (1/30) would be good to have that effect of the snow falling down and I followed the man on my viewfinder for 3 seconds to catch the perfect moment.
I used a Leica M4 and a Summicron 50 mm f/2.0 with Tri-x 400 film.
Why I use a Leica:
I fell in love with Leica M cameras many years ago and I could never quit. I still think those cameras are the best for street photography. I have a M6 too, and they are part of my body. I like that feeling, when you get used to a camera, and you don’t have to think about anything to take a picture.
I’m a photographer living in Lourdes, France – a small city close to Spain with a lot of pilgrims coming every year. I’m working 7 months a year and I have some time free during the winter to travel around the world and keep going with my street photographs.
