QuoteThis shot was taken in one of the old quarters of Shanghai. This is a quickly disappearing sight in this fast growing and developing city. In these streets, you feel that time has stopped. There, people still cook outside, do their business in the streets. They still know each other and help each other whereas 200 metres away there is the river running through the city, on its other bank the ultra high-tech business district of Pudong where deals are done and people from everywhere in the world work in the air-conditioned offices. Shanghai is a very interesting city full of contrasts and friendly people.

Shot with Leica M6TTL and Zeiss C-Sonnar 50mm f/1.5. Film: Provia 400X

Why I use Leicas:
I use Leica M cameras primarily because of there small size and simplicity. I enjoy being able to control every aspect of the shot and I do not want to rely on electronics and auto settings. Don’t get me wrong, I am not against digital camera (I own a Leica M8 and a Nikon D700) but I always have more pleasure using my M6TTL.

Maxime Even is a French expatriate who just recently moved to Singapore after spending four years in Hong Kong. His Flickr photostream is full of additional Leica shots, check it out.
