This one was taken through a subway window with a Summitar 5cm mounted on a sexy double stroke Leica M3. I don’t think an SLR could have done the job because of lousy autofocus… and the 50s lens with it’s pros and cons draws the scene just lovely, don’t you think?
Why I use a Leica:
I’m in love with Leica M cameras because they are lightweight and basic. “Less is more” works well for me, more and more each day. One camera, one prime, that’s the way !

Great shot! I am delighted to read you use an M3 and 5m. I agree with you–less is more. I bought my M3 on eBay and use a 40 mm Summicron-C (cheap, compact and sharp). I do love the M3–no batteries.
Hey Ned. Thanks for the comment. That’s funny you talk about Summicron-c as it’s my fixed lens on the Leica M6 ! I absolutely love the compact size of this 40mm, and it’s very handy. I can’t use it on the M3 as I wear glasses, can’t see outside of the 50mm frame :(
Renaud,
Yes, the 40-C is a great bargain. Another one to try is the 90mm Elmar-C. Available these days for as little as £200. And, boy, is it sharp! I used it on my featured picture on LeicaShots, “St. Paul’s from Fleet Hill.”
Best wishes,
Ned
This shot is simply wonderful; congrats!! The little lens flare in the center is just lovely… Indeed… Indeed…
“Less is better”? I remove the bat’s from my M6 because it began to be too techno for me :).
The 40-c is a wonderful lens. Wide open it gives a very vintage look and stepped down began to look very modern. What a wonder…
Thanks ! Yeah, that Summicron-c is truely a gem, I can talk about it for hours… in fact i do each time someone sell it or want some infos about it on several forums ;) I also got the 90 elmar but wasn’t able to test it as frame was a bit tiny on the M6. Now that i got the M3… it’s another story, will give it another try !
