This photo was taken in China Town in New York City on the day of the Chinese new year. I wanted to capture the festivities of the street and the celebration. The festival featured marching bands, elaborate floats, traditional Chinese costumes and dance. The flying confetti and crowded street became the perfect elements to capture the feeling of the moment.
The photo was taken with a Leica M8 with a 50mm Summilux pre-ASPH.
Why I use a Leica:
Shooting with a Leica, the process is simplified to the very essence of what’s required to capture an image. Aperture, shutter speed, and finally, focusing. Of course, I can shoot manually with any other cameras but when you feel the way the aperture ring clicks, the smoothness of the focusing barrel, the quiet shutter sound(not so much on the M8), and the bright viewfinder that let you see the surrounding, Leica cameras are hard to beat. They are beautifully crafted machines that give so much joy and a great experience. Leicas let me enjoy the process of taking a photograph just as much as I enjoy the result.
